Assessor & IQA qualifications

From the tools to the training room

Most assessor courses are general and are taught by people who have never been on site. Ours are taught by an electrician who assesses electricians. You can use your own trade for your evidence and get advice on finding assessing work afterwards.

Choosing

Which one do I need?

Why it’s worth it

Centres are looking for electricians who can assess

Electrical apprenticeship starts are falling while demand rises, and centres can’t find enough occupationally competent assessors. Awarding bodies expect electrical assessors to be qualified electricians, so your trade background is exactly what they need.

  • Evidence comes from your own trade
  • Your tutor assesses electricians themselves
  • Advice on freelance rates, contracts and finding centres
  • Already assessing without a qualification? Centres usually need you to work towards one, and we can fit around that

Questions

Assessor and IQA FAQs

Do I need real candidates to assess?

Yes. EAL doesn’t allow simulations, so you assess real learners, at least two of them, twice each. If you don’t have learners yet, start with the knowledge unit and talk to us about the options.

Is it all online?

The teaching sessions are online. Your own assessments are observed, in person or by live video where the rules allow.

Are there entry requirements?

EAL sets no formal entry requirements, but you must be at least 19 and have the reading, writing and maths to complete the work. For the IQA Award, you need two assessors to quality-assure, so most people take it after an assessor qualification.

Do I need to be an electrician?

Not for the qualification itself. But to assess electrical qualifications, awarding bodies expect you to be occupationally competent in that area. That’s why these courses suit experienced electricians so well.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. A payment plan is available on every course. Ask when you request a callback.

Who awards the qualifications?

EAL, the specialist awarding body for engineering and electrical qualifications. QEAssess is EAL approved centre C001902.

Ready to make the move?
